Frequently Asked Questions What is Colonial Behavioral Health (CBH)? Colonial Behavioral Health (CBH) is one of 40 Community Services Board in the Commonwealth of Virginia. CBH serves residents of James City County, City of Poquoson, City of Williamsburg and York County. Community Services Boards are part of the system of services for mental health, intellectual disability and substance use disorder. What services are provided at CBH? CBH offers six core services:
To learn more about each service visit the Services page. How do I access CBH services? Our services are accessed by visiting our offices or by calling 757-220-3200 to schedule an appointment. How do I start receiving services at CBH if I just moved from another Community Services Board? To start receiving services from the Colonial Behavioral Health call 757-220-3200 and ask for Central Intake. Where is CBH located? CBH has multiple locations to better serve the community. Our main offices are located in Williamsburg, just off route 199 at 1657 Merrimac Trail. CBH also has a location in Grafton at 3804 George Washington Memorial Highway. For more information on the locations visit the Our Campus page. When is CBH open? Our offices are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and in the evenings by appointment. Emergency Services and our telephone answering services operate 24 hours per day. How can I contact CBH? You can contact CBH by phone at 757-220-3200, or feel free to come visit us in person. What fees are charged for receiving services? Fees are charged on a fee for service basis. Most insurance plans and HMOs are accepted, including Medicaid. Persons without insurance coverage are charged according to ability to pay, based on income and dependants. No one will be denied services because they are unable to pay. How is CBH funded? CBH receives funding from the state as well as from the jurisdictions served: James City County, City of Poquoson, City of Williamsburg and York County. Additionally, CBH has been awarded grant funding from a variety of sources that help support programs and services. Does CBH provide Suboxone treatment? CBH does not provide Suboxone treatment at this time. Does CBH have an inpatient substance abuse treatment program? CBH does not have an inpatient substance use disorder program. We do have the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for substance use disorder treatment which is a group program that meets four times per week with day and evening groups available. We also provide some one-on-one substance use disorder counseling. To learn more about the IOP program visit the Services Page and look under Outpatient Services. Are there other Community Services Boards? Virginia has a total of 40 Community Services Boards. CBH is governed by a Board made up of representatives from James City County, City of Poquoson, City of Williamsburg and York County. The Board appoints the CBH Director who then oversees the Directors of CBH’s six departments: Administrative Services, Behavioral Services, Community Relations, Human Resources, Medical Services and Rehabilitative Services. In 1968, the Virginia General Assembly enacted legislation that created the first Community Services Board. By 1982, every city and county in Virginia had a Community Services Board serving their community. The Colonial Behavioral Health was established in 1971. Originally called Colonial Services Board, CBH received its new name July 1, 2010. What jobs are currently available at CBH? CBH regularly updates the Careers page with the current open positions.
